Smash Bros. Tournament Rules 🎮

  • Welcome to our Smash Bros. Tournament! To ensure a fun, fair, and competitive experience for all participants, please review the following rules:

Match Setup

Game Format:

  • Stock: 3 lives per match.

  • Timer: 7 minutes per match.

Items:

  • All items are turned OFF.

  • Stage Hazards are also turned OFF to ensure a consistent gameplay experience.

Stage Selection:

  • Starter Stages: Available for the first match.

  • Counterpick Stages: Added as options for subsequent matches.

Legal Stages

  • The following stages will be used during the tournament:

Starter Stages (Available for Game 1):

  • Battlefield

  • Small Battlefield

  • Final Destination

  • Pokémon Stadium 2

  • Smashville

Counterpick Stages (Available after Game 1):

  • Kalos Pokémon League

  • Town and City

Stage Selection Process

Game 1 - Stage Striking:

  • Players strike stages in a 1-2-1 pattern:

    • Player 1 bans 1 stage.

    • Player 2 bans 2 stages.

    • Player 1 bans 1 final stage.

  • The remaining stage is played for Game 1.

Games After Game 1 - Stage Banning and Counterpicking:

  • The loser of the previous match selects the stage.

  • The winner of the previous match bans 2 stages.

  • The loser can then choose from the remaining stages, including Counterpick Stages.

Gameplay Rules

Match Format:

  • Matches are Best of 3.

  • Finals will be Best of 5.

Character Selection:

  • Players are free to choose or change characters between games.

Winning Conditions:

  • A player wins the game by reducing their opponent’s stocks to 0 or by having fewer stocks with less damage when the timer expires.

No Coaching:

  • Coaching during matches is not allowed.

Tiebreaker:

  • In case of a time-out (7 minutes expires), the player with the most stocks remaining wins.

  • If stocks are tied, the player with the lowest percentage wins.

Player Conduct

  • Sportsmanship:

    • Players are expected to maintain a respectful and positive attitude at all times.

    • Trash talk is allowed but must remain family-friendly and free of offensive language.

  • No Cheating or Exploits:

    • Exploiting game-breaking glitches or using unauthorized hacks will result in disqualification.

  • Reporting Issues:

    • Any disputes or rule violations should be reported immediately to a tournament official.

Controller Rules

  • Permitted Controllers:

    • Players may use any compatible controller, including GameCube controllers, Pro Controllers, or Joy-Cons.

    • Wireless controllers (e.g., Pro Controllers) must be desynced after each match to avoid interruptions.

  • Controller Malfunctions:

    • If a controller malfunctions during a match, the player may pause and notify a tournament official.

    • The match may be restarted at the official's discretion.

Tiebreaker Details

  • Time-Out Rules:

    • If a match timer runs out, the winner will be determined by:

      • Stocks remaining (higher wins).

      • If stocks are tied, the lowest damage percentage wins.

  • Sudden Death:

    • Sudden Death matches caused by identical percentages at time-out will result in a 1-stock, 3-minute rematch on the same stage.

Spectator Guidelines

Cheering Allowed:

  • Spectators are encouraged to cheer for their favorite players, but excessive distractions or disruptions will not be tolerated.

Stay Behind Designated Areas:

  • Spectators must remain in the designated viewing areas and avoid interfering with players or tournament staff.

Prizes and Recognition

  • Awards:

    • Prizes will be awarded to the top players or teams, with specific rewards announced at the event.

    • All participants will be recognized for their efforts and contributions to a fun tournament!

  • Special Recognition:

    • Additional awards may be given for exceptional sportsmanship or memorable gameplay moments.

FAQs

Can I bring my own setup (console/stage mods)?

  • Personal setups are welcome for friendlies, but tournament matches must adhere to the official rules and stages.

What happens if I arrive late?

  • Late arrivals may result in disqualification. Be sure to arrive early and check in with the tournament organizer before the event begins.

Are spectators allowed to participate in friendlies?

  • Yes! Spectators can enjoy casual matches during downtime, as long as they do not disrupt the tournament schedule.

Additional Notes

  • Be Respectful: Treat your opponents, teammates, and tournament staff with kindness and sportsmanship.

  • Equipment: Players may bring their own controllers (wired is preferred).

  • Settings: Ensure all matches are played with the correct rule set outlined above.
